My master's thesis (non ML, coding theory for an university) was 90 first ,100 pages for second ..............for Phd it was 220 pages.....

 89 pages of pdf

  • 75 pages from first chapter to appendix notation list

Those are used in the following way:

  • 14 pages of math fundamentals (finite field extensions, linearized polynomials, ore extensions, orthogonality defect)

  • 19 pages of coding theory fundamentals (RS codes and Gabidulin codes)

  • 13 pages of literary review or algorithms overview that I need for comparisson (solve the same problem) or analysis (make the complexity analysis simpler later on)

  • 14 pages of primary result (transformation of an algorithm to a new problem, proof or correctness, complexity analysis)

  • 3 pages of application of the new algorithm to the chosen domain and its consequences

  • 2 pages review of results and conclusion

  • 2 pages of introduction (overview of the thesis structure and weak motivation)

You can see that the actual research part takes up little space (~15-20 pages) but all the basics that make it understandable or easy to argue take up a lot of space in this case.

 Abstract:

Although they take a lot of effort, modern code review procedures are crucial for preserving software quality. By utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) and intelligent automation, AI-assisted code review solutions claim to increase reviewer productivity and find more flaws. In this study, we assess the impact of AI-assisted code reviews on code quality (defect identification, code enhancements) and developer productivity (e.g., review completion time, effort). We introduce a system that combines cutting-edge AI models (GPT-4, CodeBERT, CodeT5) with conventional static analysis tools.

Dissertation /THESES (some of the MAIN topics).......................min 200 pages......

AI-assisted code reviews and automated tools reduce pull request (PR) review cycle times by up to 31.8% and cut routine task completion times by 20% to 56%, while shifting engineers into a "supervisory engineering" role that demands active human verification

Impact on Developer Productivity

·         Speed and Cycle Time: Enterprise studies (such as evaluations of integrated platforms like DeputyDev) show a 31.8% reduction in PR review cycle times, with routine tasks completed significantly faster.

·         Junior Developer Gains: Productivity and speed boosts are most pronounced among junior developers and engineers working outside their primary domain.

·         The Productivity-Experience Paradox: While 84% of developers report consistent productivity perceptions or gains, studies note a potential erosion in flow states and rising cognitive load as review and oversight responsibilities shift.

·         Code Volume: High-adopting engineering teams push up to 61% more code volume to production, with AI-assisted code accounting for roughly 30% to 40% of shipped code.

Impact on Code Quality

·         Automation of Routine Checks: AI tools excel at catching repetitive style violations, standard enforcement gaps, basic syntax errors, and standard boilerplate issues.

·         Defect Rates and Complex Logic: For complex logic, security-sensitive backends, or novel architectures, AI outputs often require heavy human refactoring. Studies like BaxBench show that even advanced models can leave functional or security vulnerabilities behind if unverified.

·         Code Verbosity: Some AI-generated implementations introduce redundant abstractions and higher cyclomatic complexity or code verbosity, necessitating stricter code review standards.

·         The Risk of Superficial Reviews: A major quality hazard is the "shallow review culture," where developers blindly trust AI-generated pull requests or approve their own AI-assisted code without deep verification.

Key Metrics for Measuring Impact

Engineering teams typically track AI review and productivity using standardized frameworks (such as the DX AI measurement framework):

·         Review Efficiency: Average time spent in code review and PR cycle times.

·         Defect Density: Bugs and security vulnerabilities per thousand lines of code.

·         Adoption & Acceptance Rate: Active user retention and the percentage of AI suggestions or pull requests merged by developers.

1.   Introduction

Software development lifecycles heavily rely on code review processes to ensure quality, maintainability, and security. However, traditional manual code reviews are often time-consuming and susceptible to human error and bias [19]. While automated tools like static analyzers exist, they frequently miss deeper contextual or logical issues and may not provide actionable feedback [19]. Fault Localization (FL), the process of identifying the root cause of bugs, is a significant part of debugging, often consuming the majority of developers' time [2]. Existing automated FL techniques, while varied, have seen limited adoption, partly due to their failure to provide clear rationales for their suggestions, a feature highly desired by developers [1, 3, 6].

Recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) present an opportunity to revolutionize code review and debugging [11]. LLMs can understand code context, identify complex patterns, suggest optimizations, and even generate explanations for detected issues [1]. This project introduces a web- based AI assistant designed to enhance the code review process. By integrating powerful LLMs like OpenAI's GPT models [12] with traditional static analysis tools such as ESLint, the platform aims to

provide intelligent, contextual suggestions, identify security flaws, offer refactoring tips, and ultimately improve both developer productivity and overall code quality [19]. The platform supports multiple languages, including Python and JavaScript, analyzing code snippets or linked repositories. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of this AI-assisted approach compared to existing methods, focusing on metrics related to speed, accuracy, and precision in identifying code issues [16].

2.  Related Work

Automated Fault Localization (FL) has been extensively researched, with major families including Spectrum-based FL (SBFL), Mutation-based FL (MBFL), and Information Retrieval-based FL (IRFL) [15]. SBFL techniques, while often effective, typically require comprehensive test suites with both passing and failing tests, which can be computationally expensive to obtain [2]. A significant drawback across many traditional FL techniques is their inability to explain why a particular location is flagged as faulty, hindering developer trust and adoption [1, 7]. Developers emphasize the need for rationales to understand and validate FL tool outputs [3].

The emergence of LLMs has opened new avenues in software engineering tasks, including program repair and debugging [4, 18]. Techniques like AUTOFL demonstrate the potential of LLMs for explainable fault localization [1]. AUTOFL utilizes LLM function calling [12] to navigate large codebases, overcoming context window limitations and generating natural language explanations alongside fault locations [1]. Studies show such LLM-based approaches can outperform traditional baselines in localization accuracy [1]. Other works explore using LLMs for code generation, summarization [9], and automated review comments [17]. GitHub Copilot, for example, assists with code completion but offers limited in-depth review capabilities [19].

Explainable AI (EAI) is increasingly important in software engineering, ensuring that AI-driven suggestions are transparent and understandable [19]. Developers need to trust AI recommendations, especially in critical systems [19]. Integrating EAI..................................................
