Australia
New South Wales has extensively expanded the number of occupations which qualify for state sponsorship. The list, which originally contained just a couple of dozen separate occupations, has now been expanded to over 100 separate occupations including 52 separate health and medical care occupations, 16 individual engineering fields, eight teaching fields and 24 metal, building or trade occupations.
Australia’s new SkillSelect system for matching skilled overseas workers with jobs in the country is proving popular, according to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Midwifery is the latest skill being added to Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program to make it easier for internationally-trained practitioners to find work in the country and to address a chronic shortage in the field
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has announced that, from 25 October 2012, certain non-Canadian spouses and partners applying for Canadian residency will be granted an initial period of two years conditional residency prior to being eligible for permanent residency.
Alberta business owners are on the hunt for employees but are discovering that talent is more difficult to find. BMO Bank of Montreal’s Hiring Outlook Report, released Friday, said Alberta businesses are the most likely to say it’s difficult to attract talented employees (63 per cent).
Three new temporary work visa subclasses are being introduced in Australia next month to replace the existing nine visa subclasses currently in place. NEW ZEALAND
A recently released report revealed that net migrant numbers for September showed a slight increase of 100 over arrivals versus departures. The figures were seasonally adjusted and were the fourth in a row of seven months in which more people entered the country than left. The most popular destination for migrants was Australia, although net outflows to the country have remained stable since March 2011, at an average of 3,300 per month.
The Hub will be based in Christchurch. Four ‘skills brokers’ will help to match job vacancies with workers seeking employment. Where there are no New Zealand citizens who are able and willing to fill any vacancy, Hub staff will help international talent to step in. the Hub is expected to ‘go live’ in November 2012. British immigration authorities have closed down an estimated 500 bogus colleges operating in the country over the last 18 months, affecting a number of students from abroad, including from India. However, top officials in the education sector insist that for genuine and legitimate students, Britain is still a viable option and Indians still account for the second highest number of non-EU students in the country.

SINGAPORE
A recent survey named Singapore as the richest country in the world and with great wealth has come the attendant health issues, such as diabetes and chronic illnesses associated with greater longevity. Singapore is looking to increase the number of health professionals to meet growing demand for care by 50 per cent in the next eight years, a rise of 20,000 people.

The Australian government’s new significant investor visa, which provides a pathway for migrant investors, is set to roll out on November 24. The applicants under this category will need to make investments of at least A$5 million (Rs 27.8 cr) in the country to qualify.

The State Tourism ministry is waiting with bated breath as Goa is being considered by the Central government for grant of visas on arrival for close to 21 international destinations.
Travellers to Canada from visa-exempt countries will soon face additional hurdles when applying for a visa visit as the government of Canada has announced the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) program.
To streamline the visa process worldwide, the US embassy and consulates across India are implementing a new visa processing system that standardises procedures and simplifies fee payment and appointment scheduling through the website www.ustraveldocs.com/in. Under the new process, more applicants will be able to complete visa requirements without having to visit the US embassy or the consulate. A report, released earlier this week and entitled ‘What Do Graduates Do 2012’, indicated that Scotland is one of the best places in Britain to find a graduate-level position; eight per cent of graduates in 2011 found employment with an average starting salary of £20,509, around £600 higher than the UK average of £19,935.
Every year, a large number of students make a beeline for Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) of United Kingdom. Now, the university is planning for tie-up with Indian educational institutions which are offering courses related to health science.
Germany, a hub of quality scientific research and innovation, is keen to attract the brightest Indian minds for further studies and research and has as an incentive made it easier for students to stay over and work, the country’s envoy has said. Another incentive for students is that German universities don’t charge any fees.
Indian students applying to study in the United Kingdom should stay clear of “unscrupulous agents” who are using increasingly varied strategies to dupe applicants, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) has warned. The UKBA – Britain’s immigration authority – has also decided to bar agents from collecting passports and other documents on behalf of applicants at the end of visa processing, from October 10

Investing in an IT career is like investing in real estate: In both cases location matters. While it’s not all about location, location, location, compensation for the same IT job can vary widely — sometimes by $50,000 or more — depending on where you decide to work.  But the best paying job may not be the best value because cost of living factors can more than cancel out a higher salary.
TechAmerica has released its latest job report which showed job gains in 16 of the last 18 months. In that time, IT jobs have grown from 5.8 million to 6 million, or 3.3 percent.
Unemployment numbers for IT last month were stagnant, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The outlook is much rosier for demand and salaries with specific IT careers in the years ahead. “Competition is expected to be particularly fierce for professionals who can support mobile, big data, cloud and virtualization initiatives,” according to report authors.
